Several weeks ago Wanda and I headed down to Baltic, Ohio to eat at Miller’s Dutch Kitchen. It had been a while since we made the short trip south of Berlin to eat there. On the way there, we saw lots of horse and buggies and Amish young people riding bikes, on their way towards Baltic. Unbeknownst to us, it was the first night of the Baltic, Ohio Homecoming. After a delicious meal at Miller’s we headed on over to the park area and spent a bit of time there and had some home-made ice cream. The main event was the Amish girls volleyball tournament. Buckeye Business School for Amish and Mennonites
Most Amish young people finish their formal education at the eighth grade. They are legally exempted from compulsory schooling beyond that, unlike the general population. Now there is another option for those who would like more. The East Holmes School system in conjunction with Buckeye Joint Vocational School provides a program for those between the ages of 14 to 22 years who wish to add a practical knowledge of business to their repertoire.
Amy Stauffer-McNutt’s enthusiasm is clear to see as she talks about the forty to fifty students she teaches throughout the school year in the detached classrooms beside the Berlin Grade School. She describes her career path as a twisting one that eventually “led me to a job I love!” She feels God brought her to this place doing something for which she has passion, to help young people be ready for their entry into the work force.

Amish Boys Basketball Team
I frequently open the gymnasium at the Berlin Christian Fellowship for teams that come to play basketball. The teams that play on Monday and Tuesday nights are made up of young Amish boys. Yesterday, Saturday, there was an all day tournament. One of the teams was a group of Amish boys who love to play basketball. I asked several of them if I could take their pic and they said they were fine with that. In this pic are Ray Yoder, Paul Troyer, and Paul Yoder. After I took their pic they asked me if I would take their team picture since they had been wanting a pic of the team with their blue and yellow jerseys.
