The 5th Annual Quilting & Cuisine Mini Shop Hop was this weekend. This is quite an event! This year was the second year that the event has been held on both Friday and Saturday; with both days a sell out. There’s no lack of enthusiasm from the ladies, and a sprinkling of men. The show is sponsored by Gramma Fannie’s Quilt Shop, Country Craft Cupboard, and Helping Hands Quilt Shop all of Berlin, Ohio, Miller’s Dry Goods of Charm, Ohio and Lone Star Quilt Shop of Mt. Hope, Ohio. The event starts with shopping at each of the five stores [Read more…]
One of our roving reporters caught up with Richard & Wanda Brunstetter signing books yesterday at the Sarasota Christian Bookstore in Sarasota Florida. Wanda is a national best-seller writer of Amish fiction novels. One of her novels, The Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club, is being produced as a musical. The new musical will open in Ohio at The Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek Ohio in August of this year. I thoroughly enjoyed “The Confession” musical which opened at the Carlisle last year. Can’t wait till this new production begins. More information about the opening of the musical in Ohio Amish Country can be found at: Half-Stiched Amish Quilting Club.
We’ve had a string of overcast days with rain and some light snow flurries. On Saturday, I headed down to the southern part of Holmes County towards Coshocton county and saw a lot of interesting sights. Pictured here is an Amish girl driving the “big rig” with a big tire in tow. I would guess she was no older than twenty, probably younger. This photo was [Read more…]
Today was a busy day in Ohio Amish Country. The twice annual big horse auction is going on in Mt. Hope Ohio. It was a beautiful day but a bit muddy as you can see from this photo. The sale runs almost the whole week and ends on Saturday. I picked up an Amish man this morning about 7am and drove him up to the auction barn. He is from Canastota, New York, from a single church district Amish community, consisting of about 12 Amish families. All the familes living their are originally from the Holmes County Ohio area, but there is one family from Indiana that is going to be moving to Canastota. He came here to see if he could find a better deal on a pair of Belgian work horses. Where he lives in New York, about thirty miles from Syracuse, there are not very many horses for sale at auction. I frequently open the gymnasium at the Berlin Christian Fellowship for teams that come to play basketball. The teams that play on Monday and Tuesday nights are made up of young Amish boys. Yesterday, Saturday, there was an all day tournament. One of the teams was a group of Amish boys who love to play basketball. I asked several of them if I could take their pic and they said they were fine with that. In this pic are Ray Yoder, Paul Troyer, and Paul Yoder. After I took their pic they asked me if I would take their team picture since they had been wanting a pic of the team with their blue and yellow jerseys. I did so and also printed out a copy for each of them. [Read more…]
Wanda and I were at the Valentine’s Candlelight Dinner and Concert at the Walnut Creek Carlisle Inn last night. I had heard that it was very good but never got to go. What a great experience! This is an annual event and we think it’s an exceptional event in Ohio’s Amish country. The large banquet room, with it’s subdued lighting, and candles on the tables, is just beautiful. The tables are set up to accommodate groups but you can also request your own table, for “just the two of you”, which is what we did.
Shortly after we arrived and made ourselves comfortable, we ate delicious salads, which were already setup on our table. Then on to the the main course. [Read more…]
Tonight I can say “Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, I’ve got love in my tummy.” Good times were had tonight at the taste test of Yummy’s Frozen Yogurt in Berlin, Ohio Amish country. Yummy’s was a big hit tonight. I know many people who have been looking forward to opening day, which is tomorrow. I can tell you from first hand experience that the frozen yogurt served here is among the best Wanda and I have ever tasted. Yummy’s Frozen Yogurt is owned and operated by Jeff & Tatiana Wilkens of Berlin, who did an incredible amount of research into the frozen yogurt business in order to give their customers the very best.
